This International Summer School will take place for 5 days in Vienna, Austria and 10 days in Zagreb, Croatia, with day-trips to Ljubljana and Rijeka. Lectures, assigned readings, and meetings with scholars in Vienna and Zagreb will cover the history of planning and architecture in those cities, concentrating primarily on the 19th and 20th centuries. This course will explore the process of modernization and how it affected urban form, architectural expression, and architectural theory and pedagogy in Central Europe.
