The reading for this introduction to literary study involves two kinds of texts. On the one hand, there is a selection of literary texts which belong to different literary genres, and which are representative of different periods in British and American literary history. On the other hand, the reading includes a selection of critical and theoretical texts, designed to provide an an overview of representative critical and theoretical approaches, especially from the 20th century.
